Sattrack

How to use

This page introduces the main features of Sattrack and how to use them. No account is required — just open the top page in your browser to start 3D satellite tracking.

1. Basic 3D globe controls

  • Left-drag: rotate the camera (spin the globe)
  • Right-drag or Shift + drag: pan the camera
  • Mouse wheel or pinch: zoom in / out

2. Displaying satellites

Each point on the globe represents the current position of a satellite. Positions are computed from publicly available TLE data using the SGP4 propagation model. By default, only active satellites are shown.

3. Selecting and tracking a satellite

Click a satellite marker on the globe to show an annotation with its name, current latitude/longitude, altitude, and other details. Click again to close the annotation. You can also search and select satellites from the list in the right-hand side panel. Toggling "Tracking" on makes the camera automatically follow the selected satellite.

4. Filtering by satellite group

From the settings tab in the right-hand side panel, you can toggle visibility per satellite group (tag). Large constellations such as STARLINK contain many satellites and consume significant rendering resources, so filtering down to the groups you are interested in keeps the experience smooth.

5. Data update frequency

TLE data is fetched from Celestrak on a regular schedule. Satellite positions are computed in real time in your browser, but the underlying TLE data itself is refreshed on the order of hours to a day. For recently launched satellites or those that have just performed maneuvers, there may be a small discrepancy between the displayed position and the actual one.

6. Performance and recommended environment

The site uses WebGL and runs in modern desktop and mobile browsers. Displaying thousands of satellites simultaneously can be heavy on low-end devices. If the experience feels slow, try filtering down to fewer satellite groups or disabling decorative features such as orbit lines.
